Announcement Regarding Dori Lange, Director of Quality Improvement

To our SFHP partners:

I wanted to let you know our QI Director Dori Lange resigned from SFHP last week because she and her family had decided to move to Europe for a year abroad. Her husband had the opportunity to take a sabbatical from his teaching position, and one month ago, they flew to Switzerland to find out if it was a good fit for their family.  They found that they are loving the experience, and they decided to settle in for a year in Bremblens with their two children – 10 year old Liam, and their new baby, Monique. They have a house in a village of 200 people; their village is so small there is no store. A local farmer sells eggs and vegetables once a week. Dori said she will be focusing on her family for now, and then look for a job when she is ready.

She wanted to let everyone know that she regretted not being able to tell people personally, but it is too far to fly back to arrange a transition.

I told her that I was sad to hear her news, but happy for her family. They are able to take advantage of an opportunity of a lifetime, and I wish them the best.

As you know, Dori Lange has dedicated almost 10 years to San Francisco Health Plan.  She started in January of 2000 as a data analyst, and was promoted over time to the Director of QI in 2006.  Her dedication and enthusiasm for improving the care of our members and participants in the safety net has made a tremendous impact. In partnership with her team, Dori was responsible for developing many of the innovative incentives that contribute to our stellar HEDIS scores and gold awards over the last few years. She had tremendous passion for ensuring that every member receives excellent care. She led her team to try new innovations each year, and her advice was frequently sought out by peers at other Managed Medi-Cal plans. Her intelligence, spirit and warmth were appreciated by providers during her annual HEDIS visits. She will be sorely missed by SFHP and the provider network.

Kimberly Higgins Mays has graciously agreed to continue in her role as Interim Director of Quality Improvement until we fill the position.

Please join me in wishing Dori the best; I told her that we count on her staying in touch, sending photos, and coming to visit us next time she is in town.

Regards,

Kelly
