The SFHP Physician Advisory Group reviewed the revised criteria for breast cancer screening. The link below contains the criteria used for Community Health Network and UCSF medical groups (SFHP does not review authorizations for other medical groups).  Highlights include:

• SFHP will only do outreach to women for mammogram screening age 50-74, but will not restrict coverage of mammograms based on age (mammograms do not require SFHP authorization if done within medical group)
  
• MRIs and genetic screening should only be used in selected populations (reviewed in detail)
  
• We encourage the use of national guidelines for cancer screening:
  • Cervical Cancer: American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists
  • Breast Cancer:  US Preventive Services Task Force
  • Colon Cancer:  US Preventive Services Task Force
  • Prostate Cancer:  US Preventive Services Task Force
