  SFHP Cost-Effective Prescribing Strategies

As you know, June 1st launched the transition from State (“regular”) Medi-Cal to Medi-Cal managed care for seniors and people with disabilities. One of the big problems we face is the transition from the Medi-Cal formulary to the SFHP formulary. The State Medi-Cal formulary contains many expensive brand-name medications. In contrast, the SFHP formulary maximizes the use of generics in major therapeutic categories.

San Francisco Health Plan wants to make sure that infants and children that meet medical necessity criteria for nutritional supplementation by mouth receive their therapeutic formulas as quickly as possible. In order to do so, SFHP has been working with WIC (California Women, Infants and Children) to establish an efficient process for approving requests.

Providing access to culturally and linguistically appropriate care is a crucial component to providing high quality health care. All non-English monolingual and Limited English Proficient (LEP) members of San Francisco Health Plan (SFHP) should have linguistic services available to them for all medical related visits.

  Incentives for Members and Providers Contribute to More Adolescents Getting Well Checks
During 2010, fifteen provider offices and clinics participated in our Well Adolescent Provider Outreach Incentive Program. This program offered providers $20 for each comprehensive annual exam given to adolescents 12-21 years of age.
