17 Fall Cover

At our Service Center, we can help you find information on what health care choices are available for you and your family.

Our Enrollment Team can help you complete your Medi-Cal application. If you need help renewing in Medi-Cal, they can help with that too. They can provide help with the Healthy Workers, Healthy Kids, and the SF City Option programs.

Our team is certified Medi-Cal managed care plan enrollers for Covered California. They can tell you about the four-tiered medal system, subsidies and tax credits, price rates, and more. They can help you choose and enroll in insurance plans offered through Covered California.

Our team can also see if you can get CalFresh, the State’s food access program. This program provides monthly aid that you can use to buy most foods at many markets and food stores.

You will get high quality support, in a culturally respectful way and in the language of your choice at our Service Center.

To make an appointment, call us at 1(415) 777–9992. Our Service Center is at 7 Spring Street, between Kearny and Montgomery Streets, where Chinatown and the Financial District meet. What You Eat Can Change How You Feel

Eating healthier food is one way to help with depression.

If you feel depressed or down, talk to a trained counselor. But also think about the fuel you are giving your body. Research shows that people with depression feel better when they eat healthy foods.

Healthy food doesn’t have to be expensive. Visit for tips on eating healthy on a budget. Talk to a trained counselor for help with depression:

Mental Health

Get Mental Health Services From Your Home

Is it hard to leave home because of a disability? Do you have to be home to take care of kids? Or do you just prefer to get care from the comfort of your home?

You can now talk to a mental health provider from home. You just need a tablet, smart phone, or computer with a web camera. During your telehealth appointment, you will be able to see and hear the provider on your device. Providers can help you with anxiety, depression, trauma, parenting, and much more. They can also help you get medication for certain behavioral health conditions if needed.

For more information on how to access mental health services from your home, call Beacon Health Strategies at 1(855) 371-8117. You will be able to speak to someone about accessing services from home. They will help you decide if telehealth is a good fit for you.

Fight the Flu

Anyone can get the flu, and it can be serious. Everyone 6 months of age and older should get a flu vaccine every year. The flu shot is not perfect but it can reduce sickness, missed work and school, and prevent doctors’ visits and hospital stays.

Protect yourself and your loved ones from getting the flu! Get the flu shot each fall, wash your hands often, and avoid close contact with people who are sick. #FightFlu

  • Medi-Cal members 19 years of age and older can get the flu shot at their doctor’s office or at the pharmacy*
  • Children 18 years or younger can get the flu shot at their doctor’s office

*Members who get care from Kaiser should still get their vaccines at Kaiser.

ID Card

Don’t Forget to Renew Your Medi-Cal Health Care Coverage

Once a year, the Medi-Cal office mails you important information and an application form so you can stay in the program. Watch for a letter and renewal form from Medi-Cal. Fill out the form and return it as soon as possible.

Make sure you enclose all the requested documents. It is very important that you return it by the due date listed on the form. If you do not hear back from Medi-Cal within 45 days of your mailing, call your local Medi-Cal office at 1(415) 863-9892.

Do You Have Back Pain?

Providers are changing the way they treat low back pain. Tests like X-rays, CT scans, and MRIs usually don’t help your doctor figure out what’s wrong. And whether you take medication or not, back pain will often improve after a couple of days. It usually gets much better within a few weeks. Because of this, your provider may not want you to take medicine for your back pain, especially opiate painkillers. Instead, they may tell you to try exercise, meditation, physical therapy, or acupuncture first.

Acute (short term) pain starts quickly, or from an injury, and lasts less than 6 weeks. Heat, massage, or acupuncture may help.

Chronic (long-term) pain lasts more than 3 months. Exercise, acupuncture, meditation, tai chi, or yoga may help.

Good news about acupuncture! Acupuncture is now available up to two times per month for Medi-Cal members. Talk to your provider about using this benefit if you have chronic back pain.
