
RSV Vaccines Available for Adults Age 60+ and Pregnant Women
Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a virus that spreads fast and infects the lungs and breathing airways. It can cause mild, cold-like symptoms. But it can also cause serious illness that can send you to the hospital. People with the highest risk of severe RSV illness include:
- Older adults
- Adults with chronic (long-term) heart or lung disease
- Adults with weakened immune systems
- Adults living in nursing homes or long-term care facilities
- Infants
New RSV vaccine benefits for SFHP members are available for:
- Adults aged 60 and older
- Pregnant women during weeks 32 to 36 of pregnancy

Pregnant women should get the RSV vaccine to protect their infants from getting sick between birth and 6 months of age.
How to Get the RSV Vaccine2>
San Francisco Health Plan covers all vaccines recommended by the Advisory Committee for Immunization Practices (ACIP). This includes the RSV vaccine.
- Medi-Cal members can get the vaccine at a doctor’s office or pharmacy.
- Healthy Workers HMO members can get the vaccine at a doctor’s office.
Please talk with your PCP about getting the RSV vaccine. You can also get the RSV vaccine at the same time as you get other vaccines like the flu or updated COVID-19 vaccine.
