I wanted to take the time to recognize the events of these past weeks and how these times remind us that we still have a long way to go towards fixing injustice and achieving true equity for our Black community. I know many of our members, employees, and providers are in pain, angry and so very sad. We want our members to know that we are here for you. We at San Francisco Health Plan (SFHP) understand that structural racism and racial injustice not only took the lives of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, Sean Reed, Tony McDade and many others, but also contribute to the disproportionate negative impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on communities of color across the nation.
Even though SFHP’s work focuses on health care; we understand that community health cannot occur until we heal the wounds of racism within all systems. We care deeply about your health and stand with our community partners and providers in making the work to achieve equity in the delivery of healthcare move ahead.
Our mission at SFHP is grounded in improving the lives of our members and we are dedicated to doing better and being part of the solution. We want to be sure you have access to the support you need, so if your physical or mental health is suffering from the combined impact of the pandemic and the events of these last weeks, the SFHP network of clinics, doctors, nurses and therapists are here for you. Please reach out for support and contact your Primary Care Provider if you are worried about your health. Please refer to the list of resources below. Lastly, I ask each of you to, in some way, be good to yourself. These last few months have been a roller coaster for our country and each of us individually, and we will need strength, compassion and empathy to make it through.

You can still get help from your doctor for many of your health needs. If you are sick, or need medical help, call your doctor first. You can get help through email, video call, or over the phone with your doctor.
The first step is to call your doctor’s office. They may be able to help by phone without even having to go into the office. They will also suggest when it makes sense for you to be seen in person, and how to do so safely.

A “shelter in place” means everyone, except workers in Essential Activities, is to work from home to protect our community.
