More People Qualify for Medi-Cal

Medi-Cal changes in California mean you and your entire family may now qualify for low-cost health coverage regardless of your immigration status or age.

Changes to Medi-Cal in California

As of January 2024, Medi-Cal is now open to everyone, no matter what your immigration status or age is.

When you enroll in Medi-Cal, your immigration status will not be told to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). You will not be deported. Your chance to become a citizen will not change. By law, your address or your private information will not be shared with other agencies.

Current Requirements for Medi-Cal

Your whole family can get Medi-Cal.

Changes made by California mean that:

  • Adults between the ages of 26 to 49 can get Medi-Cal.
  • Immigrants can get Medi-Cal no matter what their legal status is.
  • When you enroll in Medi-Cal, you will not be asked to provide asset information as part of the income requirements. Learn more about this change here.

If you were told you cannot get Medi-Cal before, you may now qualify.
