Your body needs blood sugar (glucose) for energy. When blood sugar levels rise too high or fall too low, you may feel weak or tired. Knowing your numbers helps you stay in balance. Follow this simple guide to check your blood sugar.

  1. Check your numbers each day.

Daily checks help you learn how your body responds to meals, activity, and rest.

  2. Choose how you monitor your blood sugar.

Use a finger‑stick test or a continuous glucose monitor (CGM) to see your numbers in real time. Talk to your primary care provider* (PCP) to see what is right for you.

  3. Know your target levels.

Health experts recommend aiming for 80–130 mg/dL before meals and less than 180 mg/dL 1–2 hours after eating. Ask your PCP what your target is.

  4. Create a steady routine.

Check your blood sugar at the same times each day. Write down your results or use an app.

  5. Let your numbers guide healthy choices.

Your numbers can show how each food affects you. Make changes to help balance your blood sugar throughout the day.
