Where to find support in SF when you need help
How others treat you, based on your gender or who you like, can impact your mental health. For example, you may feel safe in some places and unsafe in others. Because of this, LGBTQIA+ people often have higher rates of mental health issues.
LGBTQIA+ people may face stigma (or judgement) in certain parts of their lives. This can be with their family, at work, school, and more.
Other problems LGBTQIA+ people may face that can impact mental health, include:
- Rejection
- Trauma
- Substance use
- Not having a stable or safe home
- Thoughts of hurting yourself
- Poor mental health care
People in the LGBTQIA+ community often come together to support each other. If you are facing mental health issues, you can get help.
