Your vaccination guide for older members of the family
Vaccines are one of the best ways to protect yourself and your family from diseases. When more people get vaccinated, it helps stop the spread of diseases and keeps everyone safer.
Vaccines for Teens (13-18 Years)
Teens need vaccines too, to stay healthy as they grow:
- COVID-19: Protects against COVID-19.
- Human Papillomavirus (HPV): Protects against HPV, which can cause certain cancers such as cervical cancer.
- Influenza (Flu): Given each year to protect against the flu.
- Meningococcal (MenACWY): Protects against meningitis (brain and spine infection).
Vaccines for Adults
Adults need vaccines to stay protected:
- COVID-19: Protects against COVID-19.
- Influenza (Flu): Given each year to protect against the flu.
- Pneumococcal (PPSV23): Protects against pneumonia.
- Shingles (Zoster): Protects against shingles, often for people 50 and older.
- Tetanus, Dephtheria, and Acellular Pertussis (Tdap): A booster shot that protects against tetanus, diphtheria, and whooping cough.
Talk to Your Primary Care Provider (PCP)
It is important to talk to your PCP about which vaccines you need and when to get them. They can help you and your family stay up to date with shots.
You do not need pre-approval. SFHP covers all vaccines recommended by the Advisory Committee for Immunization Practices (ACIP).
You can go to cdc.gov to learn about the vaccine recommendations for kids, adolescents, and adults.
