Eye problems are common, and many people may not know that they need glasses or contact lenses. Some eye problems may not have symptoms in the early stages either. Routine eye exams can help you have clear vision and protect you from vision loss.
San Francisco Health Plan (SFHP) partners with Vision Service Plan (VSP) so you can get vision care. VSP works with certain vision providers. You can get vision care from these VSP providers.
Find a vision provider at vsp.com or call 1(800) 877-7195. When you call a VSP provider, please say you are a “VSP member.”
If you get care from a vision provider that does not work with VSP (out of network), it may not be covered. If you paid out of pocket, it is not guaranteed that you will be paid back.
How To See a Specialist
You can visit a specialist if you need expert care for a certain problem. Ophthalmologists are a kind of specialist that do eye surgery. They are covered by SFHP. They often work together with your optometrist.
You visit an ophthalmologist for:
- Eye surgery or procedures.
- Any skin issues near your eyes (like skin tags or moles).
- Treatment for complex eye health conditions, such as cataracts (cloudy vision) and glaucoma (eye diseases that harm your eyes).
