Getting regular physical activity (exercise) can make a big difference in your health. Adults should aim to exercise about 30 minutes a day, however, even a little exercise can make a difference.
Make your heart and lungs stronger
Help with balance, muscle tone, bone strength, and flexibility
Lower stress and put you in a better mood
Reduce your risk of many health problems, like type 2 diabetes, and heart disease
Tips for Getting Started:
Start slowly so you don’t get hurt
Pick activities you like to do. This will make it easier to keep with it.
Find a buddy to be active with
Doing a moderate activity, like brisk walking, is safe for most people. If you’re not sure, talk to your provider about what type of exercise is right for you. This is especially important if you:
- Have not been active for a while
- Have any health problems, such as
heart disease, arthritis, or diabetes - Are pregnant
- Are over age 60
