Many older adults find it harder to get good sleep. Changes in the body, long-term health conditions, or certain medicines can make rest difficult. Summer heat can also affect how well you sleep.
Try these tips:
- Reduce screen use before sleep, including phones, computers and television. If you are using these devices, consider sleep-promoting activities such as listening to relaxing music.
- Keep your bedroom cool and dark.
- Create a calming bedtime routine, like gentle stretching or reading.
- Avoid caffeine late in the day.
- Stay active during the day to help your body relax at night.
- If you snore loudly, stop breathing during sleep, or feel very tired during the day, talk to your PCP.
Good sleep supports your memory, mood, and overall health.
