Help to improve your emotional and mental health
If you are feeling stressed, or anxious, or notice other symptoms of mental health issues, you can get support to improve your mental health. Most people get better with medicine or talking with a mental health expert. Mental health care is confidential, and you do not need a referral from a doctor.
Ways to get mental health support:
- Join a support group. Find a group at SFHP Health Education Classes.
- Talk to your primary care provider (PCP). Your PCP is your main doctor, physician assistant, or nurse practitioner. You can find their phone number on your SFHP ID card.
- Call our partner Carelon Behavioral Health at 1(855) 371-8117 to make an in-person or online visit. Learn more at carelonbehavioralhealth.com.
- Call the 24/7 SFHP Nurse Advice Line at 1(877) 977-3397.
- Visit sfhp.org/teladoc to talk to a doctor 24/7 by phone or video.
For urgent mental health care:
- Call your county mental health plan, which is San Francisco Behavioral Services at 1(888) 246-3333 or 711.
- Call or text 988, or chat online with the national suicide prevention hotline, if you or someone you know are having thoughts of hurting themselves or others. The care provided by 988 is covered by SFHP.
For Those Under the Age of 18:
If you are under age 18, you can get some services without a parent’s or guardian’s permission. These services are called “minor consent services”. If you are 12 years old or older, you may get outpatient mental health care services for:
- Sexual assault
- Incest
- Physical assault
- Child abuse
- When you have thoughts of hurting yourself or others
Learn more about mental health care in the SFHP Member Handbook or at SFHP Behavioral and Mental Health Services.
