At San Francisco Health Plan (SFHP), our mission is providing high quality health care for San Francisco with dignity and transparency. Today, we’re sharing an important update about your care.
What We Know
SFHP recently learned that the federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), or the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, may have shared the personal data of Medi-Cal members with the Department of Homeland Security. This data includes the immigration status of all Medi-Cal members in California.
We recognize this is deeply concerning, especially for our undocumented members and mixed-status families. Right now, the California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) is working to confirm reports about this data sharing.
Our Commitment to You
SFHP takes the privacy of our members very seriously. We are determined to get you the answers you need. While we work to find those answers, please know:
- SFHP is committed to protecting the right to health care for all our members, including undocumented community members.
- San Francisco is a sanctuary city, which means that SFHP does not cooperate with federal immigration officials except where required by law.
- We are working alongside other local health plans, community organizations, the California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS), and other agencies to learn how we can best serve you and uphold your right to health care in this difficult time.
